Scientists discover a revolutionary method against baldness.

A group of researchers at the University of Southern California (UCLA) in Los Angeles, USA, has developed a new method that stimulates hair growth from stem cells and could lead to the development of drugs against Alopecia associated with hormonal imbalances, stress, aging and chemotherapy.

The research published in the journal Nature Cell Biology, led by Heather Christofk and William Lowry, found that stem cells of the hair follicle - responsible for the cyclical growth of hair throughout life - have a different metabolism than other cells of the skin and can be stimulated. In this way, when your cell cycle is interrupted by different factors, baldness appears.

The follicles process glucose from the bloodstream to produce energy in the form of pyruvate, used by mitochondria for cellular activity, or turn it into another metabolite known as lactate. Based on these observations, the experts attempted to deduce the role of both metabolites in the capillary cycle and thus determine how they influence their growth.

The analysis revealed that by genetically blocking lactate production in mice, this prevented the activation of stem cells in the follicles. On the other hand, if the pyruvate entry into the mitochondria was genetically decreased, the stem cells were forced to produce more lactate, and with that, they caused the birth of new hair faster.

"Prior to this, no one knew that increased or decreased lactate would have an effect on stem cells of the hair follicle," says Lowry on the UCLA portal.

Two hopeful drugs: RCGD423 and UK5099

After the discovery, scientists were able to develop two possible drugs (RCGD423 and UK5099) that were tested in mice and succeeded in stimulating lactate production through different metabolic pathways.

Although they have not been tested in humans and are not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. (FDA), Lowry says this method is "promising" and could help millions of men and women. "I think we have barely begun to understand the critical role that metabolism plays in hair growth," concludes the expert.

LG UX 6.0+ to debut in LG V30. LG shows V30 OLED Full Vision Display screens w/floating bar.

UPGRADED UX IN LG V30 ENABLES MORE PERSONALIZATION OPTIONS FOR MAXIMUM CONVENIENCE
Multimedia Excellence, User Personalization and Intuitive Usefulness
at the Heart of LG’s New Smartphone UX

The new UX 6.0+ to make its debut in the upcoming V30 from LG Electronics (LG) is an advanced version of LG’s UX that has been optimized to work even better with the immersive 18:9 OLED FullVision display while offering more personalization options for a more intuitive user experience. Featuring the company’s first OLED FullVision display and an advanced dual lens camera, the LG V30 is a powerful multimedia tool and the new UX is designed so that users can leverage its advanced capabilities to the fullest.

Graphy, which can be accessed in the camera’s Manual Mode, gives any shutterbug professional quality photography capabilities. With Graphy, users can choose from among a portfolio of professional shots, each with a different style and mood or they can download photos taken by professionals from the Graphy website or mobile app and apply those metadata presets – such as white balance, shutter speed, aperture and ISO – to photos taken with the V30.

Different shooting modes such as auto, grid shot, snap shot and match shot are conveniently grouped under one menu for ease of selection. GIFs can be quickly created in the Gallery menu while the Create Movie option allows for the creation of movie using photos and/or video files which can then be edited in the included Quick Video Editor.

The Second Screen in the LG V20 has evolved to become Floating Bar on the V30. The semi-transparent Floating Bar allows for quick access to frequently used functions and can be dragged completely off the FullVision display when not needed.

When powered off, the Always-on Display is even more customizable than before. The AOD now not only shows the clock, it can also be set to display Quick Tools, Music Player or a personal photograph as well.

Security features in the LG V30 are also more advanced than in LG’s previous smartphone UX. Using Face Recognition, the V30 can be unlocked instantaneously using the front facing camera even when the phone’s display is off. And there is no need to press the power button first, unlike on other phones.

Voice Recognition uses a combination of the user’s voice and self-generated keywords (ideally three to five syllables combined) to unlock the V30 without the need to press a button or swipe the screen. It is supported by Qualcomm Aqstic voice UI technology for always-on, always-listening capabilities that requires very little battery power.

Even the feel of the UX can be tailored to users’ preference. Haptic feedback on the LG V30 can be customized with various included vibration combinations that can be matched to the phone’s ringtone.

LG V30 will have much better camera photo resolution than the LG V20.

LG V30 TO ELEVATE SMARTPHONE CAMERA TO NEW HEIGHTS
Largest Aperture Smartphone Camera and Glass Crystal Clear Lens
Deliver Brighter, More Vivid Images Than Ever Before.

LG Electronics (LG) will incorporate an F1.6 aperture camera and glass lens in the dual camera of its upcoming V30 flagship smartphone, introducing industry-leading innovations that bring a new level of photographic innovation to the mobile industry.

Excellence in smartphone cameras has long been a core competency of LG’s mobile devices and the dual camera module in the upcoming LG V30 will include the world’s largest aperture and clearest lens ever to be featured in a smartphone. LG’s first F1.6 lens is also the largest aperture among existing smartphone cameras, delivering 25 percent more light to the sensor compared to an F1.8 lens.

The glass Crystal Clear Lens also delivers greater light-collecting ability than a plastic lens as well as better color reproduction. This makes the V30 particularly well suited for photography and videography.

“LG boasts an unrivaled heritage in smartphone photography and our decision to adopt glass in the V30 camera is specifically because this has traditionally been the realm of DSLRs,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “For the users for whom the V series was designed, this kind of innovation is significant.”

In all areas, the camera in the LG V30 is superior to the camera of its predecessor, let alone other smartphones. The camera in the V30 cuts edge distortion by a third compared to the V20 when capturing wide angle shots, making it ideal for group wefies, spacious interiors and expansive landscapes.

Even with all these improvements, the rear camera module of the LG V30 still manages to remain svelte, 30 percent smaller in size compared to the V20. Paired with LG’s specialized UX featuring laser detection AF, optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization, shutterbugs will find the V30 as easy and convenient to use as its predecessor.

The LG V30 smartphone will be unveiled in August 31st in Berlin at IFA 2017.

iPhone 8 UPDATE: Apple will unveil it in September event but will launch in late October/early November.

Delay is because of part supplies issues and a change in the back design of the phone caused by the fingerprint scanner location.

Latest Galaxy Note 8 information.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will sport a 6.3-inch display Infinity Display, biometric technologies, including facial recognition,  iris scanner and a fingerprint scanner.

The fingerprint scanner will again be placed on the back of the phone near the camera lens, like the Galaxy S8.

Samsung will adopt a dual camera for the first time in its premium lineups. The dual rear camera system of the Note 8 will feature a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens and 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom support.

The new device will also feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Samsung’s Exynos 8895 for its application processor, 6-gigabyte random-access memory and 3300 mAh battery capacity.

Samsung Electronics’ upcoming Galaxy Note 8 has adopted force touch that allows the phone to read the amount of pressure applied to the screen, ET News reported on Aug. 9.

The force touch, also called 3-D touch, will use the same solution adopted for the current Galaxy S8 to replace all the functionality of a home button and open a hidden menu with shortcuts to different features.

The Note 8 will debut on Aug. 23 in New York and will officially be launched on Sept. 15 in Korea and the US. Its price is expected to surpass 1 million won ($872) for the first time.

iPhone 7S/7S Plus for September w/edge to edge LCD displays. iPhone 8 delayed to November, design to change.

Korean sources are saying Apple`s iPhone 7S and 7S Plus will be unveiled in September and will still have LCD panels, but the interesting thing is  that both units will have edge to edge displays, that wraps around the side.

Not saying anything about NO home button on these 7S and 7S Plus models.

Still undecided on the detailed specifications of some hardware and design features, US tech giant Apple has postponed the unveiling of the iPhone 8 fitted with an OLED screen to November.
“Apple’s top brass recently approved the September launch of two LCD models, but the OLED iPhone launch is likely to be delayed to November,” an official from a Korean supplier told The Investor on condition of anonymity.

The OLED iPhone 8  is failing to work the fingerprint scanner on the front display.

The iPhone’s rear design has not yet been finalized. We are still awaiting Apple’s final decision before shipping parts,” he said, hinting that the phone is also likely to have a fingerprint scanner on the back.
“Fingerprint scanning, which plays a crucial role in safeguarding payment solution Apple Pay, needs to be fault-free. Apple seems to have failed to fully develop the technology for the upcoming iPhone,” said a local display expert who wished to be unnamed.
Samsung is making OLED displays for the iPhone 8 in small amounts at this time.

FACE ID FOR APPLE PAY CONFIRMED FOR IPHONE 8 AND IPHONE 7S.

2Q 2017: Worldwide tablet market share: Apple 30.1%, Samsung 15.8%, Huawei 8%, says IDC.

The downward spiral of the tablet market continued during the second quarter of 2017 (2Q17), according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. Despite notable product launches like the new lower priced iPad and products from other top-tier vendors, worldwide shipments for tablets declined 3.4% year over year in 2Q17, reaching 37.9 million.

Once touted as the savior of the market, detachable tablets also declined in the second quarter as consumers waited in anticipation of product refreshes from high-profile vendors like Apple and Microsoft. However, with new product launches towards the end of the second quarter, the detachable market is expected to maintain a stronger position in the second half of the year.

"There's been a resetting of expectations for detachables as competing convertible notebooks offered a convincing and familiar computing experience for many," said Jitesh Ubrani, senior research analyst with IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Device Trackers. "To date, the 2-in-1 market was bifurcated as Apple and Microsoft led with detachables while the PC vendors led with convertibles. Though that is slowly changing as smartphone vendors and traditional PC vendors begin to offer compelling alternatives, the pace has been rather slow as Surface and iPad Pro still dominate shelf space and mindshare."

Market turmoil aside, three of the top five vendors managed to increase share and grow on an annual basis with price being the largest driving factor. However, these gains may be temporary as the replacement cycle of tablets is still long (closer to traditional PCs rather than smartphones) and first-time buyers have become a rare commodity. With downward pressure on pricing from big name brands, "whitebox" tablet vendors and smaller brands are starting to turn their attention away from tablets and IDC expects this trend to continue.

"The tablet market has essentially become a race to see if the burgeoning detachables category can grow fast enough to offset the long-term erosion of the slate market," said Linn Huang, research director, Devices & Displays at IDC. "From that lens, the second quarter was a slight righting of the ship and there is still much to be hopeful about in the back half of 2017. New product launches from Microsoft and Apple are generally accompanied by subsequent quarters of inflated shipments, the reintroduction of Windows to the ARM platform could help remedy the aforementioned hollowing of the middle of the market, and we expect a proliferation of Chrome OS-based detachables in time for the holidays."

Tablet Company Highlights

Apple positioned itself quite well during the quarter by consolidating its lineup and introducing two new iPads. The new iPad's relatively low price point triggered some consumers to upgrade their aging devices and demand for this new tablet finally caused a turnaround for Apple's iPad business. Meanwhile Apple's transition towards detachable tablets continued with the launch of the 10.5" iPad Pro and a major update to iOS (expected later this year).

Samsung was able to gain share simply by sustaining flat growth in this declining market. The company appears to be the third major contender in detachables, after Apple and Microsoft, and in typical Samsung fashion offers multiple detachable tablets with a choice of either Windows or Android. On a worldwide basis, Samsung's slates have a significant presence though, like many other vendors, this portion of the business continues to struggle.

Huawei's investment in brand marketing in Europe and Asia has continued to work well as the company finds itself among the top 5 for tablets as well as smartphones. With plenty of low-cost and cellular-enabled options, Huawei has been able to slowly steal share from rivals like Lenovo. However, the company has been fairly cautious of the detachable market and recent products have had very limited launches.

Amazon.com's aggressive pricing strategy has worked well due to its ever-growing ecosystem. Amazon also managed to update its lineup, offering new tablets at a better price and expanding its Alexa service to the UK. Amazon is also the only major vendor that actively targets the kids' tablet market by offering a dedicated bundle inclusive of kid-friendly content – an approach that seems to have paid off as the company has managed to maintain a stronghold in the tablet market.

Despite the annual decline, Lenovo has managed to slowly increase the share of detachable tablets within its product portfolio, which tend to have a higher average selling prices (ASPs). A low-cost strategy focused on Asia has worked so far, but that strategy is starting to lose its legs.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 pre-orders start in Sept 1st and will release it in September 15.

According to ET News the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 pre-orders will start in September 1st and full sales will be open in September 15th as a release date of the mobile.

Customers in South Korea will reportedly be able to pre-order the Galaxy Note 8 between September 1 and September 10. The pre-order period is one day less than it was for the Galaxy S8.

Pre-order activations will reportedly begin in South Korea on September 11 and run through to September 14. The pre-activation dates are actually one day longer than they were for the Galaxy S8.

Samsung will officially release the Galaxy Note 8 on September 15. Customers who didn’t place a pre-order will be able to purchase the new flagship smartphone then. Samsung is likely to follow this roadmap in other launch markets as well.

The Galaxy Note 8 will be unveiled in NY in August 23rd.

FaceID Apple Pay confirmed for iPhone 8 and iPhone 7S.

@_inside has found on the HomePod software tracks of  FaceID Apple Pay feature coming to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7S this September.

Indeed, other developers and software buffs have inferred that references to "pearl.field-detect" and "pearl.pre-arm" in the leaked software for the company's forthcoming HomePod smart speaker are actually references to Apple's in-development facial recognition system known as 'Pearl'.
And, while the use of Pearl in forthcoming Apple products has long been recognised as the Face ID source code one of the surprises is that the Face ID will now apparently be integrated with Apple Pay to create a pioneering FaceID Apple Pay system.
FaceID Apple Pay will be available for the first time in iPhone history, thanks to the accidental release of beta software for another Apple product.
