UK gives the green light to spectrum trading.

WorldWide Tech & Science Francisco De Jesús.

UK regulator Ofcom has given the go-ahead for mobile operators to trade the rights to the spectrum they hold, in a measure it said is aimed at helping increase mobile network capacity and deliver faster and more reliable mobile services for consumers.

The new regulations cover spectrum in the 900MHz, 1.8 GHz and 2.1 GHz bands.

The UK government asked Ofcom to introduce a framework for spectrum trading at the end of last year. Ofcom will be responsible for the administration of spectrum trades - publishing the details of proposed trades online, confirming that they are acceptable, and then issuing revised licences to implement the trades.
