2Q 2011: Acer looks to ship 1 million Iconia tablet PCs

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Acer has been taking delivery of Iconia tablet PCs eagerly from its production partners with the company's global shipments of tablet PCs likely to reach one million units in the second quarter, according to sources in the upstream supply chain.

Increasing revenues at Acer's two touch sensor suppliers, Cando and Sintek Photronics, illustrate the booming sales of Iconia tablets, the sources indicated.

The sources also noted that Compal Electronics, Acer's production partner for Iconia, shipped 300,000 tablet PCs in April, of which 70% were 10.1-inch Iconia tablets.

Acer has stepped up its shipments of tablet PCs indicating that it has streamlined its policy-decision making after former CEO and president Gianfranco Lanci resigned, the sources commented.

Acer also said that feed-back from global channels for its Iconia tablet PCs has been satisfactory and that its supply failed to meet demand in April-May.
